The first year of the FJ Cruiser had a separated remote and key, but they combined the remote and key for the second model year. From then on the FJ used that integrated remote key. Unfortunately, that key had a limited lifespan as the plastic case eventually cracks and fails - sometimes leaving the broken key blade in the ignition!
